reporting handbook. this is produced by the f.b.i. we don't have a choice in how we report crime to the state and to the federal government. and so it's important to understand that as we step through that. step through this. so three of the key agencies involved are the california department of justice. that's the state level. the f.b.i. uniform crime reporting, that's the document i just showed you, that's the federal level. and the white house office of management and budget, who is kind of the group that defines how these categories will be established. so if you look at the racial designation by agency, all three of these agencies define race in the the exact same categories, other than the the white house has recently separated native hawaiian or pacific islander. those are two categories. the state, the federal and the white house are consistent across the board in how they define race, and how they require us to report our arrest statistics to them. so this is sort of the most important concept of what i'm about to present. see you'll notice there is no hispanic on this l

. >> miguel marquez with the latest for us from los angeles. thank you. >>> fbi investigators are expected in libya today to investigate the attacks on the u.s. embassy. the u.s. ambassador and three other americans were killed. cnn intelligence correspondent suzanne kelly is following the developments for us from washington. what did the u.s. intelligence agencies know and when did they know it? >> it's great to look back now in retrospect and take a look at soom some of the clues that were there. one of the things they knew was that these groups were present in benghazi, they were well-organized, they have an infrastructure to them. they also knew of the presence of al qaeda sympathizers in the area, pockets of sympathizers. they also knew -- and we found this out from an intelligence source, there was an intelligence cable 48 hours before this attack took place that warned about the presence of this anti-muslim film on the internet. not only that, but that they had seen an up tick in the traffic visiting that site, that obviously this is a sign that this is gaining more popularity. cnn

and protesters, and now the fbi is warning of potential violence here at home. a bulletin is out warning of protests in u.s. cities and extremist groups in this country that they believe could exploit anger. melissa mollet in the news room with more on the situation. melissa, good morning. >> many good morning, aaron. >>> though it makes no information about specific threats, the bulletin is warning first responders of large protests in the united states. this is video from cairo. protesters in the streets throwing rocks at the military. the military had been constructing a concrete barricade to protect the u.s. embassy there. bracing for a rally after morning prayer today. 11 u.s. compounds have been under attack. one protester has also been killed. the protests are over a film made here in the u.s. considered blasphemous to islam. the protests have spread from libya and egypt to yemen, iran, and iraq. some groups in dcairo are condemning the violence but calling for a peaceful million man rally today. there are worries that protest could turn violent. the fbi is now overseas and invest
with the details. >> reporter: we have a he said/she said between the hacker group and the fbi of all federal agencies. let's take a look at what we know so far. the hacker group is called antisec claiming to have posted 1 million apple identifying data pieces of information. they also say that they've got 12 million of these i.d.s in total and only posting a few as a sample. they say they got the information from the laptop of a fbi special agent by hacking in to that laptop and includes unique device identifiers, user names and in some cases links it to personal information such as e-mail addresses. now, here's what the fbi says about this. they say at this time there is no evidence indicating that a fbi laptop was compromised or that the fbi either sought or obtained this data. now, i talked to the fbi about that this morning and saying there's no evidence of this agent had this information on his laptop. wasn't a personal situation with it on an off the the record basis. they say he simply didn't have the information that the hacker group said he had. now, here's where this story starts t

attack. >> a hacker group claims it stole personal information aboutapple device owners from an fbi laptop. fox 5's melanie alnwick has more. >> reporter: good morning. it is not clear yet whether the exposure of that information could be personally damaging to apple customers. apple itself has not commented yet on the breach of information. the responsible group, which calls itself anti-sec as in anti-security, says it released the information published it basically to let the public know what kind of information the fbi is collecting. every apple device has a unique identification number which lets itunes and app developers know which device is running which app. for example, the id could allow game developers to keep track of users' high scores. the hacker group anti-sec says it actually found 12 million apple ids on an fbi agent's laptop. anti-sec says the data file had user names, zip codes, cell phone numbers and addresses but chose just to post the device name and number. the group says the fbi is using apple device information for a tracking people project in its own words.

into the capital under tight security. behind-the-scenes an fbi team is preparing to fly to benghazi to investigate the attack. the compound behind these walls is the major crime scene but any evidence left inside will have been badly contaminated by looters and curious local people who flooded in after the attack. here's what eyewitnesss, officials and libyan commanders in charge that night have told us. sometime around 9:30 p.m. about 70 armed men attacked the consulate's main gates with guns and heavy weapons. they then stormed in, overwhelming local and american security. with all four buildings on fire the libyan government ordered a local militia to the rescue. that militia helped to ferry 31 americans and the body of sean smith out the back gate in armored cars to a house a mile away rented by the u.s. government. shortly afterwards it too came under fierce attack. what we still don't know is how back at the compound ambassador stevens got separated from his security detail only to be found dead or dying just after midnight by the crowd. suspicions for the attack have focused on a powerful i
